THE NO-REFLOW HAND

Regular, Italic and Bold drawn on the same advance widths with the same kerning, so changing the weight or the style of a word in a layout moves nothing around it: no reflow, no line that suddenly breaks, no button that grows. The Linotype duplexed matrix of 1890 did this for newspapers; nobody does it for screens. This is the HAND cut: drawn the way a master of the duplexed newspaper face (1890) would have drawn it, with the Linotype matrix, roman and bold cast on one width: roman and bold share every advance so a line re-set in bold never reflows.
