THE COPY DESK HAND

A font that typesets as you type: straight quotes turn curly the right way round, two hyphens become an em dash, three dots an ellipsis, (c) (r) and (tm) become their signs, 4x4 becomes 4×4, 2019-2026 takes an en dash, 1st 2nd 3rd 4th raise their letters, 1/2 becomes a fraction, and figures of five or more group themselves in threes. An editor’s house style, written into the file as OpenType, so it works wherever the font is typed. This is the HAND cut: drawn the way a master of the transitional (1757) would have drawn it, with the pen turned nearly upright, the engraver’s eye: stress nearly vertical, contrast raised, serifs sharpened, the page brighter and more rational.

Styles: Regular, Regular Italic, Bold. Files: TTF for Mac, PC and websites. Commercial use is included in every licence.
